Non-Small Cell Lung CancerThe information on this site is intended for US healthcare professionals only.
Play storyJenn was diagnosed with limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC) and received IMFINZI® (durvalumab) after chemoradiation therapy as part of her treatment plan. Now, her creative projects and baking continue to help Jenn make space for more than cancer.
Play storyJenn: Once I have a plan, I’m good to go. I find that it helps organize my thoughts. It helps organize what I’m gonna do. My name is Jenn. I was born and raised and live in Michigan, and I was diagnosed with limited-stage small cell lung cancer. I work as a cook, and I’m the baker at the facility that I work at. So I come up with dessert ideas. I also serve patients. To see the looks on their faces and see what enjoyment they get out of the food that we cook. It’s a new understanding and a new level of gratefulness that I have for what I do because it affects other people. So I developed a cough. A dry, unproductive cough. So I went back and I made sure that I saw my main doctor. And she said, “There’s a test we can do.” It was the week of Thanksgiving, and she called me at night, which is an odd thing to do. And she said, “I feel like a really bad person for calling you and telling you this, but you have a mass in your lung, and I think it might be cancer.” And I said, “Hey, wait a minute.” I said, “Don’t you dare feel bad. Let’s just make a plan.” And she said, “We’re making a plan.” I knew I was scared somewhere in how I was feeling, but I also have a lot of faith. I just had a faith that things were gonna be okay. My doctor approached me about joining a blind clinical trial. I remember my husband and I were sitting in a room when he came in, and he started to talk about it. And this was a chance to be part of something that could help more people than just me. And if anyone gets a chance to be part of something like this, do it. Just say thank you and do it. Make a plan.
VOICEOVER: Jenn received chemotherapy and radiation therapy given together (CRT), followed by IMFINZI to treat her limited-stage small cell lung cancer.
Jenn: My support system was amazing. The most important people in there were my family and my husband, mostly my husband. He was there with me all the time. We would have days set up that were for the infusions and for the treatments. But then we set up a schedule of eating, dining. This is the night we’re gonna do this. This is the night we’re gonna do that.
VOICEOVER: IMFINZI® (durvalumab) is a prescription medicine used to treat adults with a type of lung cancer called limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC). IMFINZI may be used alone when your LS-SCLC cannot be removed by surgery and has responded or stabilized after initial treatment with chemotherapy that contains platinum, given at the same time as radiation therapy.
Jenn: I like the paint-by-numbers because it’s like seeing the trees before you see the forest. It’s like each cell is its own little color, and you can get into each little color and you’re like, “What is this big picture going to be?” And it feels impossible sometimes that there’s going to be a big picture. But in the end, sometimes after a really productive evening, I go look at it in the morning and I’m like, “Oh my gosh, that’s what that was. All those little cells, that’s what it was.” I see the forest now instead of just the trees. It really is a metaphor. The most popular dessert I make is the carrot cake. They love it. It’s an old-fashioned recipe from my aunt. The staff will come down. “We heard there was carrot cake today. Got a piece for me?” And I’ll be like, “Okay, all right.” Cancer is not all my space. It feels more like I’m giving back to the world.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
What is the most important information I should know about IMFINZI® (durvalumab)?
IMFINZI is a medicine that may treat certain cancers by working with your immune system. IMFINZI can cause your immune system to attack normal organs and tissues in any area of your body and can affect the way they work. These problems can sometimes become severe or life-threatening and can lead to death. You can have more than one of these problems at the same time. These problems may happen anytime during treatment or even after your treatment has ended.
Call or see your healthcare provider right away if you develop any new or worsening signs or symptoms, including:
Lung problems: cough, shortness of breath, and chest pain
Intestinal problems: diarrhea (loose stools) or more frequent bowel movements than usual; stools that are black, tarry, sticky, or have blood or mucus; and severe stomach-area (abdomen) pain or tenderness
Liver problems: yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes, severe nausea or vomiting, pain on the right side of your stomach area (abdomen), dark urine (tea colored), and bleeding or bruising more easily than normal
Hormone gland problems: headaches that will not go away or unusual headaches; eye sensitivity to light; eye problems; rapid heartbeat; increased sweating; extreme tiredness; weight gain or weight loss; feeling more hungry or thirsty than usual; urinating more often than usual; hair loss; feeling cold; constipation; your voice gets deeper; dizziness or fainting; and changes in mood or behavior, such as decreased sex drive, irritability, or forgetfulness

Rejection of a transplanted organ or tissue. Your healthcare provider should tell you what signs and symptoms you should report and monitor you depending on the type of organ or tissue transplant that you have had
Complications, including graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), in people who have received a bone marrow (stem cell) transplant that uses donor stem cells (allogeneic). These complications can be serious and can lead to death. These complications may happen if you underwent transplantation either before or after being treated with IMFINZI. Your healthcare provider will monitor you for these complications
Getting medical treatment right away may help keep these problems from becoming more serious. Your healthcare provider will check you for these problems during your treatment with IMFINZI. Your healthcare provider may treat you with corticosteroid or hormone replacement medicines. Your healthcare provider may also need to delay or completely stop treatment with IMFINZI if you have severe side effects
